What is Lindy at First Sight?

I started dancing Lindy Hop about a year and a half ago... But wait, that’s another story. First, I’d like to write about why I decided to start this blog.

Everytime I get to know a new Lindy Hopper and ask them how and when they started dancing, I always hear the most touching and heart-warming stories. Whether it’s people from England, Brazil, Argentina, or anywhere else in the world, I’ve never heard a ‘how-I-started-to-dance-lindy-story’ that wasn’t incredible and unique. Most people tend to fall in love with it at first sight, get extremely obsessed, do completely crazy things to follow this passion, and spend all their money on Lindy Hop classes, workshops and camps (not to mention all the vintage clothing and comfortable shoes – KEDS!). But the idea to write down all these amazing stories and share them with the world didn’t occur to me until recently.

So, this on girl sends me a friend request on facebook. I have no idea who she is, but I notice we have more than 30 friends in common. All Lindy Hoppers. So I (of course) decide to accept her friend request. We start talking to each other online (about Lindy Hop, obviously) and instantly become friends. So then I ask her about her story, how she started dancing Lindy and why. As an answer, she wrote me a HUGE paragraph, telling me all the details of her story, from how she got to know Lindy Hop up to all the crazy things she did to improve her dancing in a city where is was still very unpopular. We barely knew each other and she could have simply summarized her story in a sentence or two, but instead she chose to tell me all of it. Her beautiful and touching story filled me with such joy that I realized I wanted to share it with the world. Actually, not ‘it’, but ‘them’ - all the stories I’ve ever heard and all the others I’m still to hear about how people fall in love with lindy at first sight.

So here it is, now. A little place to share all these amazing love stories, not between two people, but between people and Lindy Hop: Lindy at First Sight.
